And The Winner Is….

Well, here’s a thing… Devon and Cornwall are no longer the UK’s favourite destination for touring caravans. That mantle is now proudly owned by… Wales. Says who? Well, Haven Holidays, that’s who.

A spokesman for Haven said, that while Wales has always been “highly popular with its fantastic scenery, glorious beaches and warm hospitality,” that now “our latest figures for touring holidaymakers confirm it is number one.” One park owner who vouches for this is Gemma Dennehy, of Kiln Park, Tenby, who says the park has been much busier this year than other years, and with national pride stated that ““It is about time that Wales came out on top for camping and caravanning. There is so much to see and do here, especially in Pembrokeshire.”

Haven, who have six parks in Wales and provide, says that the demand for its top-of-the-range accommodation hit an all-time high this year, up 35%. Last-minute weekend breaks showed a 15% increase on the same period last year. All excellent news.

The Director of another Welsh site, Nina Davies, stated that trade at Lakeside Caravan Park, Llangorse, near Brecon, “is definitely a lot better this summer than in recent years and I put it down to the weather, which wasn’t a washout and September has been lovely, warm and sunny. The sun has given us a wonderful end of summer boost. People have been cautious about spending too much money over the past couple of years. So they have started to opt for camping more so that they have more spending money available for activities when they get on site.”

A spokesman for the RAC said that holidaymakers from London and the South East of England have begun to wake up to how easily accessible Wales has become on the motorway network. Pointing out that London motorists, “face a shorter trip to Wales and its beaches than to Devon and Cornwall with the M4 route to Cardiff and the M40 to Mid Wales.” However, he stressed the importance of caravanners travelling at “appropriate speeds and, because they are driving large vehicles, to find a safe layby to pull over in and take a break while letting other vehicles pass them if there has been a build up of traffic.”

Of course I woudn’t be doing my job if I didn’t reiterate the importance of a good touring caravan insurance policy to anyone tempted by the thought of Wales, or anywhere for that matter. As more and more people come to appreciate the pleasures of owning a touring caravan, more and more there is a requirement for good information to help them find the right touring caravan insurance policy. This is where caravan-insurance-cover.co.uk aims to step in and help caravanners both understand what they need, and where they can find it.
