Whether you own a static or a touring caravan, insurance should be in the forefront of your mind. This is even more so the case if you own a static caravan, because although there are some differences in risks associated with each type it is crucial that you are adequately protected by having a suitable static caravan insurance policy in place.
There are some advantages to owning a static caravan in comparison to a tourer, notably once they are in situ there is no need to move them any further. So there are no additional risks concerning moving the caravan on roads, and also a massively reduced risk that the caravan is stolen. However some alternative things need to be borne in mind.
Static caravans are more prone to being vandalised, and having things stolen from them, simply because they are left unattended for long periods at a time. By contrast touring caravans can be stored in secure facilities when not in use, or safely on your drive. Additional security features of a static caravan and of the park it stays in should certainly be considered to help reduced these threats.
At a very minimum secure locks and burglar alarms should be installed in a static caravan, and you need to make sure the site you leave it at is both reputable and suitably secure. You should also bear in mind potential environmental threats that could be posed to your caravan, for instance make sure it is not in an area at flood risk, and not too expose to the cold, which can freeze pipes.
Even with these additional forms of protection, a good static caravan insurance policy remains an important part of protecting yourself and your caravan. Loss and damage can add up to large amounts and should be carefully considered when investigating policies, in this way you can rest assured that if the worst happens, you are insulated from the financial aspects of it.
