You may not be aware of this little gem, but ‘The Caravan Channel’ is a tv programme that you can find on the niche channel ‘Information TV’, and it’s celebrating its third birthday. It can be found on Sky Channel 166 and Freesat 402, and in this time it has produced 77 half hour shows.
Chris Gosling is the brains behind this program, and is a caravanner himself. The idea grew from a website that Gosling operated for a few months prior to Information TV offering to air the programme.
The program’s content is focussed on caravans, motorhomes, campsites and camping, and other related topics. Gosling says he makes “programmes that talk to existing members of this thriving outdoor community,” Gosling said, “and that attracts new users and buyers, too. On a number of occasions we’ve had people come up and say since watching the programme, they’ve bought a new caravan – that’s down to us.”
An estimated 100,000 people watch the program regularly, which isn’t big in TV terms but is enormous in comparison with the industry’s consumer magazines, which have about half that circulation. The programme is produced each fortnight and each edition is aired 8 times over its 2 week life.
If you don’t watch the show, tune in some time to see what you’re missing.
Altogether now.. Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Caravan Channel, happy birthday to you.
